Stavros Papadopoulos is the founder and CEO of TileDB, a Big Data management platform. TileDB started in 2017 in collaboration with MIT University and Intel, where Stavros worked prior to founding TileDB. To date, it has raised $ 20,000,000 from major investors and recently received a new strategic investment from two major multinationals: Lockheed Martin and NTT Docomo. Stavros recounts his academic journey from Greece to Hong Kong and in Boston, explains the important applications of Tiledb, ranging from cancer treatments to weather forecasts and transportation, and shares valuable tips for young founders seeking investment funds.
TileDB: The Big Data Revolution
Tapping into his passion for Information Technology, desire for new experiences, his mind, friends, acquaintances, and to a certain extent, into his luck, Stavros Papadopoulos managed to create TileDB, a unique database, which, contrary to the traditional ones, can store and manage any sort of data, such as genomes, satellite images, telecom data, etc. This young entrepreneur, who comes from Xanthi, has staffed TileDB with a team of 40 people, which has been running for four years and has raised approximately €20 million from financing rounds.
